The Quality Engineer is the second in command for all quality assurance matters in the PLZ Clinton facility, and receives direction from the Technical Director. This position is responsible for leading quality control staff and test plans, organizing and responding to customer and internal complaints, non-conformances and corrective actions, and communicating effectively with customer service, Operations and other functional units to achieve low defect rates and high customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a safe working environment for Quality department; model excellent safety awareness and habits
• Ensure staff compliance with all job safety and regulatory requirements
• Work closely with plant operations to achieve quality goals
• Work with Technical Director on internal and external quality audits
• Participate in the QMS Internal Audit program
• Monitor and report KPIs for Quality Department (QCBD)
• Completes root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive actions for defects, complaints and other identified opportunities for improvement
• Lead inspection team responsible for inbound components, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished products
• Create proposals regarding Customer Complaint responses / SCARS / Follow-ups, etc.
• Perform data analysis of quality issues.
• Support and monitor the use of appropriate manufacturing practices and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
• Review SOPs, work instructions, and forms, and conduct training as part of Management of Change (MOC) activities
• Monitor and enforce QMS and PLZ company policies and procedures
• Work with QC shift leads to plan out day-to-day work activities, and to develop staff with stretch assignments

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree required for position; preferred fields of study would be STEM fields, manufacturing technology or business management.
• 2-5 years previous experience
• Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies, work instructions, and SOPs
• Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Preferred experience in packaging, manufacturing or quality control; background understanding of ISO 9001, Plan-Do-Check-Act, DMIAC, TPM, Kaizen or other improvement and quality management methodology a plus
• Good math skills, physical science, quality or engineering background a plus
• Strong problem solving skills; familiarity in 5Why, Ishkawa or other root cause analysis methods a plus
• Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel; experience with SAP a plus
